I have a weakness for a good captivating vampire book.  That means Twilight was devoured, A Discovery of witches gobbled up and The Captive series ingested and digested.

I have read a lot this year and was wondering what my next review should be about.  I have to be "inside," my writing thought process. This means I have to have a good quote that would catch the eye.  I was thinking over all the books and then came upon Catching Echoes in my Bookbub recommended list.  

To be honest, the cover did affect my choice, but once I started reading I just knew I would need to read the following two novels in the trilogy.  I was a good way into Tangled Echoes when I knew I found the quote that unlocked this review.

Wisteria Fairchild is a very powerful witch, but she only does reconstructions for the Convocation.  She has only two people in her life that she loves and only one of them is a part of her life.  She is given the assignment to aid Kettil the Executioner of the Conclave find the maker of teenage vampires after two boys are found half-turned.  Kettil, a centuries-old very powerful vampire, however, has his own agenda for requesting her as his reconstructionist for the case he is working.  Soon she needs Jasmine her cousin that is a tech wiz to help in the investigation.

They fight necromancers and zombies. Fly with private jets to race and save lives to find the offending vamp who sired the teen boys.

Kettil reveals information to Wisteria that makes her question her future. Then a ghost from her past contacts her because Jasmine is missing. Wisteria has to go home and face a part of her past she had been avoiding for 12 years.  She must do so knowing that at the end of her journey, she will face a future that she never imagined in order to keep those she loves safe and a power-hungry witch at bay.  And the blond Vampire elder and Executioner has a major part to play in the future that awaits her.

This was a good read and I would recommend it to those who love a good story with magic and powerful dark characters.

This trilogy comes after the Dowser series, however, it is not necessary to have read it before tackling the Reconstructionist trilogy.

If you know the words 'Please sir may I have some more, you also know who said it and which book.  Oliver Twist, to some, is the best known of Charles Dickens' books.  Yes, A Tale of two cities and Great Expectations are also well known but did not honour being made into a Disney Animated Film or a musical. As with many books, the title character is not always the one that people end up liking.  In the case of Oliver Twist , the Artful Dodger is the character that steals the show and how appropriate for Terry Pratchett to take this lovable character and give him the Pratchett makeover. Those of us who have read the Discworld novels and novels such as Nation  know that anything is possible once Pratchett has taken a character into his world.  For some, it might be disappointing to realize that there was nothing magical in Dodger .  That is to say nothing magical as in the Discworld novels.
