In this series starter, we meet Emily Buchanan, Sage and the resident ghosts of Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast.  Once a month, Emily hosts a séance for her guests where they can experience interaction with some of the spirits who call Eternal Rest their home.  When the groundsman brings a box of items they found in the graveyard during renovations, the paranormal activity in Eternal Rest increases exponentially.  Emily and Sage try to communicate with the spirit that seems upset, especially when an old schoolmate comes to work for Emily part-time.  Emily and some guests have upsetting dreams when a body is found next to Eternal Rest in the graveyard.  As information comes to light, suspicions grow. When the body is identified, Emily is set on confronting the murderer. Emily and Sage conduct one last séance, and in a surprising twist, the whole mystery is solved.

Sweet Dreams is the first instalment in the Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast Cozy Mystery series written by Beth Dolgner.  The audiobook by Audible is narrated by Patricia Shade and is 6 hours in length.  Patricia Shade succeeds in delivering an excellent performance that holds the listener’s attention and conveys the mysterious atmosphere that surrounds the events that unfold in and around the Bed and Breakfast. From exploding microwaves to clothes being thrown out of windows, the listener feels the tension that builds as the narrator successfully portrays the different characters through believable varying accents and pitch.
