Revenants Tales of the Five Realms book 2 by Rachel V Knox
Revenants is the second book in the Tales of the Five Realms series by Rachel V Knox. We meet Hagar and Jude as they return for their second year at Vanar University in Candesa. School starts with some surprising relationships and friendships that would have seemed unthinkable a year before. However, students see each other differently after fighting shade together and nearly dying when a mirage is set free the previous year.
This year starts with many of the professors, Lightbearers, leaving Vanar to help in other parts of the country as a mysterious fog slowly creeps in over Candesa and ultimately Vanar. Professor Hinks is the new healing arts lecturer and has a very calm demeanour. The students quickly come to trust him. As the fog becomes more intense, Requiem is ordered to patrol the University grounds. Hagar and her friends notice as students start to become different people, and a post-graduate student seems to have had a nervous breakdown.
What is the mysterious fog that seems sinister and hiding something dark? What is happening to their fellow students, and what are the black marks that appear on them? Hagar and Jude, together with Skylar, Claude, Raoul and Cerin, realise they have to stick together and end up in the fight for their lives and those whom they love. Somewhere in all this. Noq has a role to play – but can a demon who wants out of hell be trusted?
This second instalment in the Tales of the Five Realms is fast-paced and full of action, intrigue and surprises. The characters show emotional and magical growth, and this makes a good read if you want to escape into a magical New Adult fantasy world.
