For those who loved Matched and the Lunar Chronicles, this is a must-read.  I could not put it down and finished the complete series in a weekend.  There are plot twists and secrets that make the sto

Welcome to Magnolia Parish Sheriff's Office. In the heart of Lousiana Bayou country, this small Parish Sheriff's office has a group of dedicated snipers on staff.  London Carter is the leader of this select group and is a dedicated police officer who has the task of taking a life if there is no other option left. In this, the first in the series we are introduced to London Carter and his teammates.  They are confronted with a sniper who is killing off the captains in the Sheriff's office.  London has to figure out who the sniper is and in the process, he uncovers a coverup of an incident twenty years previously. The case rocks the police force of Magnolia Parish and will leave the snipers with a sense of loss and betrayal. This is a good series and had me binge reading again.  The stories are riveting and well written and something different from the run off the mill police procedurals.  It makes a good break from the norm and focuses on a part of police work n

“Sespian opened his mouth, paused, closed it, then shook his head ruefully. "It's very easy to be drawn into what you're saying, and I catch myself wanting to nod and agree. Maybe I should take notes on your technique."                                                                     click on the image to go to amazon                                                                    click  here  to go to smashwords I was looking for a good fantasy and stumbled onto the Emperor's Edge by Lindsay Buroker.  This is one of those series that you just want to read until all the books are done.  The characters are authentic with great wit and humour.  There is intrigue, romance, and lots of laughs.   The characters show development through the series and you cannot help but fall in love with them. Amaranth Lockdon is the straight and narrow Enforcer who catches the attention of the young Emperor Sespian.  She then gets caught up in an attempt to have her kill

“I call forth vengeance. She’ll come with thunder and lightning at her right, and blood and fangs at her left. She’ll come for you.”    Click  here  to go to smashwords I have a weakness for a good captivating vampire book.  That means Twilight was devoured, A Discovery of witches gobbled up and The Captive series ingested and digested. I have read a lot this year and was wondering what my next review should be about.  I have to be "inside," my writing thought process. This means I have to have a good quote that would catch the eye.  I was thinking over all the books and then came upon Catching Echoes in my Bookbub recommended list.   To be honest, the cover did affect my choice, but once I started reading I just knew I would need to read the following two novels in the trilogy.  I was a good way into Tangled Echoes when I knew I found the quote that unlocked this review. Wisteria Fairchild is a very powerful witch, but she only does reconstructions for the

Lord Denhallow was shallow and selfish until a tragic event left him brutally scarred. This has caused him to withdraw from society. He befriends a young woman through a letter he stole from her aunt and ends up marrying her to save her from a loveless marriage.  Then the Curbains find out what he has done and he discovers that he has a family who loves and adores him and his new wife. The Valiant love series is a wonderful read. Every book is a mystery to open and explore and has a fresh story to offer. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good clean book with passion and a look into the vulnerability of the character. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Unrest by Jesper Stein

click on the image to go to amazon After reading Jo Nesbo and Inger Wolf, I have developed a taste for Danish novels. There just is an absolute difference between American, British and Danish crime novels. Through the eyes of cynical and troubled policemen, you see a different side of the country and what the life of fighting crime does to a person. The Danish authors are straightforward and do not sugarcoat anything.  They call it as they see it and write brutal honest stories. In this Jesper Stein Novel, we meet Axel Steen, a troubled investigator whose supervisor sorely wants him gone and knows that he closes cases.  Steen is divorced with a five-year-old daughter whom he loves very much.  He lives in Norrebro, a mixed district that is rife with violence.  During violent riots, Steen is called out to a murder that took place amidst heavy police presence. Steen has to solve the crime and prove the police were not involved. He has to do all this while keeping his daugh

The Last Duke - Deborah Wilson

I n this book, the last of the Curbains find love.  Valiant has helped her brothers, Hero, Lore and Asher find their soul mates, but during the stories, her husband died in a fire while she was at her brother's home in the country.  Now, she has finished mourning and still faced a deal she made with the Duke of Cartelle way back in the first book, The perfect lady.  Valiant promised to find Cartelle a wife or spend a night with him should she fail. If only he would set his claim on Beatrix aside so she could marry Hero. Cartelle had already decided to let Beatrix go and was so taken by Valiant that he could not resist making a deal with her.  The only problem is that Cartelle wants Valiant for his wife.  She comes to care for him, but the label of a murderer still hangs over Anthony's head, and when the gossip rags link his name with the Lords who have gone missing, the Curbain brothers do not want him for their sister.  Then one of their friends go missing, and an
