Now, add to this a young barmaid whose whole world is turned upside down during an attack on her village. Forced to flee into the woods into the hands of the Elves living there. With the appearance of a mysterious mark on her right arm her life changes dramatically. In Cursed, Claire, Aeron, and Farron embark on their quest to find out what the mark means and why it appeared on Claire's arm. Claire only wants to find her mother and Farron does allow her some leeway to search for her. It does not take Claire to get into trouble and as she thinks she is escaping from a prison she stumbles into a life-threatening situation. She has to use her newly discovered magic to survive and is saved by Farron and taken to a Haven to heal.
In Awakened, we pick up where Farron and Claire are on their way to Farron's mother. They are ambushed by Lianna, an old flame of Farrons and mistress to his brother the King of Derenan. Claire is taken to the palace and Farron left to fight for his life. In the palace, Claire learns about what she is and how to master her magic. She meets Razi, another star child from the dessert. It does not take long for Farron to make his way to the palace and Claire, where he desperately wants to take Claire away from the power-hungry people of the Council. Claire wants to protect Farron and in the process constantly pushes him away. She pledges herself to the King and he sends her on a mission to find the remaining star children.
This is where Entrapped begins, Claire together with Farron and a group of the King's guards set out on their mission to find the star children. Claire is confronted by Bahkar who wants her for himself to add her power to his. She meets the Syndicate and their hospitality in person. She discovers a device that can disguise her magic that Lianna and Razi cannot track her. AS always a battle ensues and she has to use her magic to help Farron and Razi fight Centaurs and other beasts. In the end, Razi takes her back to the palace once again leaving Farron miles away from her.
Consumed starts where Claire once again leaves the palace of Derenan on a mission, she has to go to Uru Baya to try and find out what she is and how to stop her magic from consuming her. From there they set out to restore magic to the land. They face beasts-of-old, harsh climates and fanatic Syndicate members to complete their mission. They need to seek old allies and escape old enemies in order to reach their goal, all while Claire hides a crucial fact from Farron, which he discovers too late...(No spoilers)
To say these books are my favourites may sound contrived but, of all the books I've read these are the ones I go to every once in a while. They are bookmarked and highlighted and if they were hard copies would have a prime spot on my bookshelf.
What I especially like about these books are that Claire is a normal girl thrown into a surreal situation, she makes mistakes, acts unsure and is sometimes kind of dumb. But she is real.
I would recommend anyone to read these books. Especially if you loved S.J Maas and her world.
Happy reading
