Wicked Blood - A Vampires of Oxford Novel - Margot de Klerk
Cynthia just wanted to have summer
on her own in Berlin. After many arguments, a compromise was made, and she is
staying with a host family of Shifters. Though Cynthia thinks she is more
likely to melt from the heat than to come across a Witch or a Vampire, both
species are conspicuously absent, and she has not seen any yet, which is just
as well. She is looking for her father, and no supernaturals mean she can search
freely. She did not count on the loner she met at the Kreuzberg Memorial to
become a friend; neither did she imagine that she would become part of a search
for information about the missing Shifters. As she burns bridges faster than
she can build new ones, she must trust Monica and Nathan to have her back when
she is kidnapped, twice, to be a sacrifice for a spell that would cure the
Vampires but have a devastating effect on her new friend Leon. Will she survive
the tumultuous undercurrents of the Supernatural Community in Berlin, or will
she become an unwilling sacrifice to seal away an ancient evil? Wicked Blood by
Margot de Klerk is the second in the Vampires of Oxford series.
Wicked Blood is the second book
in the fantastic YA series, The Vampires of Oxford, by Margot de Klerk. Although
this is the second book in the series, both can be read as standalone stories
as each book focuses on the story of one main character. It is two years after Wicked
Magic, and Cynthia has grown up. Now that she is an "adult," she
wishes to find her father but also wants to prove that she is a strong person
who can function and make sound decisions independently. Cynthia has the
characteristics of any 18-year-old who wants to show that they can look after
themselves and these authentic feelings and reactions make the story believable.
I like that the author does not bring Christianity into account or misuse the
Lord's Name. Neither does she use unnecessary profanity, and the one curse word
used is acceptable under the circumstances. I would recommend this book to any
lover of great Fantasy reads.
