Leonidas has waited centuries for Savannah to remember her past and claim her place as his wife. He has watched over her for centuries with an ache in his heart. When it becomes clear that she and those close to her are in grave danger, Leonidas shows himself, hoping she will remember him. In her latest incarnation, Savannah is a detective and partnered with Noah, her best friend. He always has her back, and she trusts him with her life. When an investigation brings back many traumatic memories for Savannah, she struggles to make sense of what is happening. Then everything turns upside down. Nothing will ever be the same as the Sword of Reckoning has to be claimed, traitors are revealed, and humanity needs to be saved.

This is a fun book to read. In The Sword of Reckoning, Lea Schiza has put together a police procedural and a heavy-duty fantasy in one. The tone and feeling in the story are relaxed and laid back, supported by the casual dialogue and snarky comments and the humour that breaks the tense situations. It is a book that covers a lot of story in its 277 pages; it felt longer than that, but in a good way. What starts off seeming like a typical police story suddenly turns into a full-blown fantasy with vampires, witches, dragons and angels. Although the Lord's name was used several times, I liked that there were no religious themes, which could have been left out. There are some sensual scenes and innuendos in the dialogue, so I would not recommend it for younger readers, especially as the characters are also in their 30's. This is a fun book to read. The narrative dialogue and whole vibe from the book is that of having fun while fighting monsters, and therefore it was fun to read.
